Valoya’s Innovative LED Solutions for Crop Science
Valoya is the leading provider of LED grow lights for crop science applications such as plant breeding, crop protection and research. For plant breeding purposes, Valoya provides luminaires and spectra for seed breeding companies (e.g. KWS, Limagrain and Syngenta) that facilitate rapid generation cycles in wheat, barley and other cereals’ production. This is a significant contribution to the efficiency of food production for the ever-increasing global population.
Companies like Bayer require crop protection solutions that result in uniform plant material which is then used to test developing crop protection products. Bayer uses Valoya’s NS1 and AP673L spectra in their growth chambers.
The consistent focus on photobiology research and plant data accumulation has resulted in collaborations with more than 100 worldwide reputable universities and prestigious research institutes such as Max Planck Institute, John Innes Centre and Rothamsted Research. Besides the high quality of the spectra, researchers also favor our luminaires due to the high CRI value (color rendering index). This means the light is eye-friendly, while reflecting plant colors faithfully (more on CRI in our blog post ‘Why Are LED Grow Lights Purple’).
Furthermore, Valoya is the only LED grow light company that has developed its own Spectrum Quality Standard by which spectral variations across product generations and production batches are clearly defined and limited. This gives a guarantee that when buying a newer Valoya lamp the spectrum variation will be within bounds ensuring the same plant responses.
Optimal light spectrum provides increased yields as well as energy savings. Valoya’s spectra enable superior growth at lower light intensities than traditional light or un-optimized generic LEDs.
Valoya’s L-series and C-series products are ideal for multitier environments, thanks to their modularity in light delivery (ie. as they are of low wattage per meter, an optimal light canopy can be realized).
Improving Breeding Processes
Valoya’s lights use high efficiency LEDs with optimal passive cooling, with minimal heat radiation towards the plants.
This, and the high modularity of the L-series products and the uniform light spectrum (ie. full spectrum LEDs are used, not combinations of red-blue) enables them to be used up to proximities of 15 cm from plants.
Total Cost of Ownership
Valoya’s products are designed to have a long use life, typically rated at 90% of initial output at 35000 hours, which in most cases leads to a productive life of 7- 8 years and beyond.
The long use life is a result of excellent thermal properties of the LED fixture and the high quality power units used by Valoya.
