R&D Engineer

Valoya is on a mission to improve the production of food and medicines for the growing global population. We do so by creating the market’s most advanced horticultural LED lights that enable farmers to produce more yields and plant researchers to develop new, better performing crop varieties. We are research driven and through our plant biology R&D efforts have developed finely balanced light spectra that illuminate the growth chambers, greenhouses and indoor farms of agricultural companies, universities and research institutes in over 50 countries. Our LED technology is proprietary, and it is protected with over 100 international patents. The company was founded in 2009 and has personnel in Finland, Italy, Germany and the United States. We are a team of 20, highly efficient and motivated people who have built Valoya into one of the most recognizable horti LED brands worldwide. Valoya’s headquarters are in Helsinki.

To support our growth, we are looking for a versatile R&D Engineer to join our team in Helsinki. Although this position can fit well also to those in the beginning of their careers, ideal candidates have developed a diverse toolbox for themselves through practical experience. This does not mean you need to be an expert on everything – good problem-solving skills, can-do attitude, an ability to look for information and capacity to put knowledge into practice are enough in most cases.  In this versatile role, you will have a chance to develop yourself in many fields and influence your own job description.

Your key tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Development of our lab and testing facilities
  • Building and testing of prototypes
  • Hands-on work with electronics, mechanics, test set-ups, etc
  • Technical support activities
  • Optical measurements of e.g. LEDs and luminaires
  • Data analysis
  • Documentation and reporting

Depending on your strengths, your tasks and responsibilities can also include:

  • Product development tasks
  • Development of quality control and quality assurance procedures
  • Cooperation with and management of subcontractors
  • Project management

Our expectations:

  • Technical education such as BSc or MSc
  • Measurements know-how
  • Electronics and electrical engineering know-how
  • Good command of MS Excel and other MS Office tools
  • Fluent spoken and written language skills in English or Finnish (the other is seen as an advantage)

Senior R&D Engineer

To support our growth, we are looking for an experienced engineer to join our R&D team in Helsinki. In this versatile and key role, you will be taking new products from an idea all the way to production. To be successful, you need to have good communication and networking skills, can-do attitude, and an ability to thrive in multi-project environment. In this position, you will have a chance to develop yourself in many fields and influence your own job description.

Your key tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Management of and hands-on participation in product development projects
  • Management of development partners, subcontractors and suppliers
  • Keeping updated with latest technological developments in the field
  • Documentation and reporting

Depending on your strengths, your tasks and responsibilities can also include:

  • Development of quality control and quality assurance procedures
  • Technical support activities

Our expectations:

  • Technical education such as BSc or MSc
  • Experience in product development, preferably relating to luminaire design and LED technology
  • Electronics and electrical engineering know-how
  • Coordination skills
  • Good command of MS Office tools
  • Fluent spoken and written language skills in English (Finnish is seen as an advantage)

Logistics Coordinator

Valoya’s headquarters, where you would be located, are in Lauttasaari, Helsinki.

We are looking for a Logistics Coordinator to complement our production team, with the key goal of managing and enhancing Valoya’s logistics.

You are self-driven and passionate about making sure that in- and outbound goods are arriving timely, at efficient cost and desired condition to the right places. You are a hands-on person with experience working with customers and suppliers, logistics service providers, customs and other parties. You are also familiar with ERP systems (e.g. Visma Nova or SAP). As a person you are open-minded, social and eager to learn in a fast-moving environment. Your daily working language will be English.

The work contains the following areas of responsibility:

  • Coordinating transportation providers to ensure prompt and proper movement of shipments, both outbound and inbound
  • Making special shipping arrangements when necessary, tracking and fixing shipping errors, handling customs requests etc.
  • Handling tendering of international transportation
  • Acting as the contact person to the outsourced warehouse services company
  • Various tasks related to our webstore such as stock management, reporting etc.
  • Being in contact to Sales Representatives and Resellers to clarify shipping schedules etc.

Skills/proficiencies required:

  • Experience in international logistics management, coordinating shipping in an import-export environment
  • Understanding of export documentations and regulations, especially experience handling USA exports is a huge advantage.
  • Understanding of different transportation options and the special requirements behind these
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English and Finnish language. Other languages are an advantage.
  • Proficient working with ERP systems like Visma Nova or SAP
  • Logical, analytical with a proactive approach to problem solving
  • Ability to operate effectively independently and as a part of the team
  • Cooperative, outgoing, and customer-oriented can-do attitude
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • An educational background such as a BBA in logistics would be useful, but not necessary if you have similar competence gathered through work experience
