Key Points

  • Production and development of different varieties of flowering plants in greenhouses commercially important and constantly developing field of industry. Supplemental lighting is making production more efficient by prolonging the illuminated growth period, thus shortening time to harvest and increasing return on investment for the growers. High Pressure Sodium (HPS) lights are widely used, despite some limitations in the technology. The HPS lights have a poor light spectrum for plants, which needs to be compensated by increasing the light intensity thus also consuming high levels of electricity. The effects of the poor spectrum is most clearly visible during winter, resulting in lower quality of the plants and slower growth. The use of HPS lights in applications where lights should be installed close to plants is also limited or impossible, as the lamps strongly radiate heat towards the plants.
  • Valoya LED lights’ wide light spectrum and their specific and unique waveband combinations enable significant improvements compared to flower grower currently using HPS lights, lowering electricity cost and improving quality.
